WOW, every time I look at my blog I realize just how much of a slacker I am. Most times I feel like I have a lot to say, but I don’t want to waste my afternoon writing. I always have so much to do, that by the time I think of sitting down and writing something I am way too tired. So instead of a blog here are some pictures of this past month.
My little French girl

We’ve had a few people ask us if these two were twins…they’re 4 months apart(yes Sophie is older)

I thought it was time for some pictures. I haven’t posted any in a while… December 2007

Father came home and found his three children were outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard.
The door of his wife’s car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog.
Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall.
In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on
the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.
He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife.
He was worried she may be ill, or that something serious had happened.
He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls. As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed, reading a novel.
She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked another bewildered and asked, “What happened here today?”
She again smiled and answered, “You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world did I do today ?” “Yes,” was his incredulous reply?
She answered, “Well, today I didn’t do it.”
Sorry for the lack of posting recently. I am going to take a little break from blogging for a while. Brad and I are currently very busy and I just don’t have the time to keep up. I will return sometime soon ![]()

As of November 6th, 2007 I will be making this blog private. I do not wish for all the world to know exactly what’s going on in my life, but I do need a place where I can express it. I find that there are too many weirdos out there that do not need to know about our life and our family. If you wish to be a reader just email me and I will send you an invite. The email is k.richert@ualberta.ca
I guess I haven’t blogged in a while. Sometimes i get really bored of it and have to take a few day of. I mean it’s not like I have something new and exciting happen every day, and I find that when people write about the same old stuff all the time to be boring. I enjoy reading others blogs, but when they become repetitive I get a little bored and not read them as much. I
Anyway, time for some updates. Yesterday Brad and were playing with Sophia and she took her very first 5 steps. We have been trying to encourage her to stand by herself, but usually she either starts crying or immediately sits on the floor. We tried teaching her how to walk between the two of us and all of a sudden she took 3 steps towards me and 2 towards Brad. It was so exciting to see my little girl doing it all by herself. I can’t believe how quickly my baby is growing up. Last year at this time I was 36 weeks pregnant praying that she would already come out. I was so tired of being pregnant and just wanted to see my baby. It’s amazing how quickly the year has passed and my girl is going to be one. I think that she will probably start walking on her own within a month or two. I think that because she crawled a little weird for a while that one of her legs is stronger than the other and makes it a little hard for her to balance. She just needs a little time and a little confidence.
Now onto something more serious. The month before I got pregnant with Sophia I went to get an ultrasound done to see what was causing pain on my right side. The doctors found a fairly large cyst on my right ovary. They said that they would keep an eye on it and see if it will go away by itself, or whether they will have to remove it. I was monitored all through my pregnancy and it never got smaller or bigger. Once Sophia was born I was supposed to go back for a check up and because we moved I never went in. A few months ago Brad and I had discussed the possibility of having another child in the near future and decided that if it happens than great, if not then just as well. After a few months had passed with no pregnancy I thought that I would see what’s going on. It seemed a little odd to me that when we were avoiding I got pregnant, and when we weren’t I didn’t. Once I started charting I realized just how much of the same symptoms I have now that I had when they found my cyst. I began paying very close attention to my body and realized that not only was it still there, but it hurts more now. I went in to see my doctor and he gave me a requisition to get an ultrasound. I also asked him about the possibility of the cyst affecting my fertility and he said that it’s unlikely, but once I did my own research I found out that in fact it could be a huge cause. Sometimes (actually most times) I don’t really trust what doctors have to say unless they specialize in that subject. A family doctor will not have the answers I need about fertility, but a fertility specialist will be more inclined and educated to give proper advice.
On my ultrasound records it said that it could possibly be endomantrioma, and when I brought that up with my doctor he said that when he did my pelvic exam he didn’t feel anything. I thought that was a pretty funny thing to say since the only way that endometriosis can be diagnosed is through a laparoscopy. But he did say that if they do find the cyst is still there I will immediately be referred to a fertility specialist and go from there. I can feel it, I know my body, I know it’s there. So I guess I will have to wait until the end of the month for an update.
No picture today
Sophia is now 18 lbs 14 oz and 28″ tall
Picture for now, blog later. She won’t let me write right now.
My dad took Sophia swimming for the afternoon, so I get about an hour to myself to do whatever I want. Of course I pick to blog since it’s the laziest activity that I can think of. I like sitting on my couch, it makes me happy. I remember when Brad and I got married we had this old gray/black futon in our living room that we used to pull all nighters and watch movies on, and once I got pregnant I realized just how uncomfortable that thing really was. We then went out and bought a couch that I am currently sitting on. I don’t really know where that came from.
Today I have been reminiscing a lot, and thinking about how quickly time is flying by. At this time last year I was in my 3rd trimester wishing that the pregnancy would be over soon, and now my baby is 9 months old. I can’t believe how much she has changed and grown. I now know what people meant when they said that kids grow up fast.
Sophia is cutting another tooth or two. She has had her two bottom ones for 2 months and yesterday I discovered that the other 2 bottom ones were coming in as well. I expected the top teeth to be next, and maybe they’re coming in as well, but I will not risk and put my fingers in that mouth. You put them in and you lose them. Her teeth are so sharp that sometimes it even scares me to put food in her mouth.
Onto another note, Brad and I bought the third season of House today and I am really excited to watch it. Since last year Brad had a class Tuesday nights we didn’t get to see house, so now that it’s out I bet we will watch it in a weeks time. I have a week spot when it comes to House, I love that show. I guess I should take advantage of the hour that I have while Sophia is gone and watch the first episode. Ok, time to go…..
Brad and I went out to Abbotsford this past Sunday, and after church we decided to join my parents for lunch. Brad suggested we go to Boston Pizza and so we ventured out to get some food. We figured that it wouldn’t be too busy there since most church people tend to go to places like Red Robin or White Spot. It actually wasn’t busy at all, but our food took a stinking 45MIN to arrive. We were to mad by the end that we didn’t even want to eat anymore. My dad thought that his food was gross, and overall it was not a good place to pick that day. The server even forgot to give us our doggie bag. Boo to Boston Pizza.
Later on that day we handed Sophia off to my parents and went out to Vancouver to meet up with some friends. It was a beautiful afternoon and we had a lot of fun catching up with some people from College. On our way home we were hungry and thought that we’d go to DQ and get a quick bite to eat. We walk in there and see a total of 3 employees and a few customers. Nothing too bad. Well the girl that was the front cashier had the biggest attitude I have ever seen. She was rolling her eyes at EVERY customer and was outright rude to a lady in front of us that had 3 kids with her. There was no courtesy in her what so ever. When it came time to take our order we were told that once our food comes out that she would bring it to us. 15 min later no food. Where is our food??? We ordered a blizzard and it’s nowhere to be seen. A bunch of people after us got theirs and we have nothing. Brad went up there to ask her about it and her response was, “oops, I forgot.” No sorry, just gave us the cold food and really badly mixed blizzard and moved onto the next customer with rolling eyes. I even overheard another complaint and her response was , ‘it’s busy so whatever.”
I don’t complain often, but I was so outraged at that DQ that I wrote a huge complaint to the head office. Now lets see if they reply. Don’t go to the DQ on 200th street in Langley, they SUCK!!!! Boo to DQ.
I know that fast food jobs suck, but honestly, if you hate your job that much then quit. I really hope that girl gets fired.
Yesterday Sophia got to meet a couple of new babies. We got together with some of my friends way back from high school. We hadn’t seen each other since graduation day in 2001. I guess 6 years is a long time, but it wasn’t awkward at all. We took a nice little stroll with all of our little girls and chatted about life and what we’ve been doing for the past 6 years. It was very interesting to hear about their lives.
I was going to write much about about our play date, but Sophia is not exactly impressed with me ignoring her right now so I better finish up. Here is a picture of the 3 of us with our little darling baby girls. It goes from left to right, oldest to youngest. Enjoy!!

Here’s a picture of Sophia’s first tooth (there are more you just can’t see them yet) and the pool that we bought her

I am really wanting to blog and post some pictures from this weekend, however my wrist has become exponentially painful to the point that clothing myself, typing and taking care of my baby has become nearly impossible. I am going for an x-ray tomorrow. I will be back when I am no longer handicapped.
Remove the blog in the top spot from the following list and bump everyone up one place. Then add your blog to the bottom slot, like so:

Just a quick site maintenance note from the husband (Brad). I have updated the link to the new daily pictures of Sophia on the right hand side. Update your bookmarks (Firefox)/favourites (IE): The Sophia Daily
Sophia went to for her second set of immunizations yesterday. I hate those days, it’s was the second time that I got a look of betrayal from her. Poor little baby, but I guess she needs it done. After her first set of immunizations that she got in Feb she had a fever and wasn’t “herself” for about a month, so I did a bunch of research and found that alot of the vaccines carry mercury in them. Too much mercury can lead to autism in some children, but they have not proved it to be 100% true, still I was concerned. I found a website where Dr. Stephanie cave made a delayed vaccination schedule, so I decided to do that for Sophie. I never liked the idea of giving that many shots all at once anyway. Yah sure she will get them more often than most kids, but she won’t have to deal with a fever or with a bunch of different diseases in her.
When we went in the nurse didn’t really like that idea of me delaying the vaccinations, she tried (in a very subtle way) convincing me to just get it over with. It was almost like I had no clue what I was doing and had to follow the government guidelines. There’s is nothing wrong with for people who do that, but it wasn’t for me. She is my kid and I make the decisions of whats good and bad for her. I know that she was just doing her job and trying to see if I knew what I was doing, but I just don’t like being questioned on my parenting skills.
Oh and Sophie is not 15lbs 7.5 oz, that means she gained 8.5 oz in 2 days. Little piggy. Ok, have a good day.

Wow, so I forgot how much it actually rains here. As much as I didn’t like Edmonton, the one good thing about it was that it hardly ever rained. I think I can count on my fingers how many times it rained there. The weird thing is, is that right now it’s not even bothering me. I guess I’m just happy to be in BC. I am SURE that it will get on my nerves eventually.
I’m in the middle of watching Grey’s Anatomy, so this is going to be short. Just wanted to let everyone that we were very productive today and got a lot of our stuff unpacked. I think for a little while I am just going to post pictures, so please check in.

See you all in a week or so ![]()
Just wanted to wish everyone a HAPPY EASTER!!! Enjoy your long weekend

Yesterday afternoon Brad and I ventured out to the mall to get Sophia a new car seat. She is getting too big for her infant car seat, and we thought since Sears was having a sale we should get her one. It’s been snowing pretty hard here, but It’s Edmonton, we’re used to it. So after her second 3 hour nap we got dressed and went out. It was a successful shopping trip (most of our trips aren’t successful since we both hate shopping), after we got the huge box into our car we decided to go back home. It was nearing Sophie’s bed time. I wanted to stop off at Toys “R” Us, but then decided against it. I was pretty happy with our purchase and saw no need to make an extra stop.
We were fairly close to our house when a dumb pedestrian decided he wanted to cross on one of the busiest streets. Of course Brad slowed down pretty quickly so that we wouldn’t hit the guy. A lady that was driving behind him was NOT paying attention to the car in front of her (us) and just plowed right into us. Brad saw it coming and tried to slam down on the gas, but it was slippery and we couldn’t get away in time. Just a second before we got hit I turned to him and looked and just “knew” what was going to happen. All that went through my head was “oh Sh%^$”, that’s about as far as I got before I heard a huge bang. I swear there is nothing worse then a sound of a car accident. Well there is, but I still hate that sound. My first reaction was to rip off my seat-belt and run to the back to see if Sophie was ok. I have never felt fear like that in my life, she began to whimper, but as soon as she saw me she smiled. My baby was ok, that’s all that mattered at that time. Brad on the other hand was furious. I’m sooo glad I was not the lady that hit us, cause she got an earful from him.
Edmonton drivers just DO NOT know how to drive. I seriously thought I was going to have a nervous break down when I first moved out here. They just do not pay attention, and because of this our new car that we got a year and a half ago has been in 3 accidents already. I mean really, is it THAT hard to pay attention on the road???
Anyway, after “fervently talking” to the lady, he ran over to check on Sophie as well. I assured him she was ok, but I guess he had to see for himself. We got all her information and will figure all this fixing stuff soon.
As for injuries, like I said Sophie is fine. Brad and I hurt though, we both have very sore necks and my back is killing me. I think I got whiplash; when we got hit I was looking at Brad and my body jerked in a weird way. I’m sure I will be ok, and Brad as well.

Thanks to My kids mom for this!

Sophie has become quite attached to her little teddy bear called BABA. We were just wondering if any of you bought this little bear (for my first baby shower back in June). If you did, can you please let us know where you got it so that we can buy a back up BABA!!!
Last night Sophie was being a typic indecisive woman… Im not kidding, she could not figure out whether she wanted to be swaddled or not. NOTHING was making this kid happy last night. Overall she’s a fairly easy going baby, very predictable, easy to soothe and get to bed…but last night I could not figure out what in the world she wanted. Food was a no no, her soother all of a sudden became her worst enemy, and the swaddling blanked turned into a love/hate relationship.

Her usual bed time is around 6-7pm, but last night I could not get her to sleep until 10:30!!! By that time she was sooo overtires that she screamed like a lunatic on steroids. I know that she wasn’t in pain because I had just given her some motrin for teething before bed, so I have NO clue what was up with her. Sometimes I wish she could talk
and tell me what to do. I would have never thought that having a baby took so much time and commitment. People always made it look so easy. Such a typical girly way of thinking “Oh I can’t wait to have a baby and play with her all the time,” if only I would have know what was ahead of me…I’d still have a baby. I love being a mom, and I never tire of saying
it, I just wish they came with instruction manuals. Wouldn’t life be so much easier then?
Well, we’re off to the doctors again to rule out any other sickness… Update when we get back….
UPDATE: Sophie’s ear infection is gone and she seems to be perfectly healthy, except that she has a very raspy voice right now and I have no idea why. The doctor said that there is nothing wrong with her.
